Whare Piki

‘To take flight and soar to great heights’

Ages (approx) 3.5yrs - school age

Whare Piki encourages tamariki to empower one another, creating feelings of pride and ownership of their learning through their actions.

In Whare Piki we aspire to create a warm, calm, welcoming and inclusive environment where all tamariki feel safe, valued and respected.  Our ako space, both indoors and outdoors, supports curiosity, creativity and fun.

We provide meaningful spaces and opportunities for tamariki to participate in engaging learning experiences that are both spontaneous and intentional.  Through ako (teaching and learning together) we support tamariki to explore their interests, ask questions and develop a love of learning.

We encourage tamariki to grow in rangatiratanga (independence and leadership) while building positive and respectful relationships with others.  Through play and shared experiences, tamariki develop strong social and emotional skills, learning to show manaakitanga (care and kindness) towards others.

Our environment is a rich learning platform that supports all tamariki to challenge themselves, develop their pūkenga (skills and abilities), and extend their thinking.  We value opportunities for children to explore and connect with te taiao (the natural world).

In Whare Piki we nurture a strong sense of mana whenua (belonging).                          We celebrate the diverse cultures of our whānau and ensure every child knows they have a valued place here.

We build responsive, reciprocal and trusting relationships through open communication and strong partnerships with whānau, recognising that learning is strengthened when we work together.

  • Independence and ownership

Whare Piki encourages tamariki to empower one another, creating feelings of pride and ownership of their learning through their actions.

  • Share in our creativity

Our online learning platform; Educa is used by kaiako to share learning stories and photos with you of what your tamaiti (child) has been up to. Each tamaiti in the preschool is assigned a profile kaiako (teacher) who will encourage and observe learning oppportunities. Stories and photos are shared online through links allowing whānau and friends locally and further afield to keep up to date with your tamaiti learning journey.

  • Imaginative Play

Tamariki are encouraged to let their imagination and curiosity take the lead. Child lead learning allows kaiako to capture learning opprtunities organically through play.
